Day 14: Victoria, BC - Woodland, WA

Day 14: Victoria, BC - Woodland, WA

It's Halloween, October, 31st, we left the Florida Keys two weeks ago and our trip is half way over... time to start working our way east and south. We made reservations on the Coho Ferry Line for a 10:30am departure that would take us from the City of Victoria to Port Angeles, Washington. Although, the ferry is only five minutes over the Blue Bridge from Ritchie and Liz's home, we were required to be there by 9am for customs and immigration check. It had been very windy the night before and we were a little worried because people had told us that it could be a rough crossing. By morning, the wind had laid down and the trip was very smooth, beautiful with just a few clouds, cool temperatures and a little rain.

We arrived Port Angeles just about noon. The town sits at the north end of the Olympic National Park and is green and lush. We headed east and south along the coastline through very scenic coves, waterways, state parks and crossed a very cool bridge over the Tacoma Narrows. We drove up to Uncle Don's to pick up our "W and W" (wine and weapons) and also to see Aunt Peggy and Austin in their Halloween costumes... and one other special surprise for Mom. Her Niece and my Cousin, Adelia was there. Adelia is Mom's Brother Ward's daughter. I had met her for the first time just about 10 years ago at Mom's 80th birthday party in Utah. Adelia or Dee, as we call her, has led a full life with some interesting careers along the way. Dee is a Organic Chemist with a PHD... about three years ago Dr. Ritchie started a company specializing in skin care for dogs called DerMagic. Mom was very surprised that Dee was there. Don had pecan pie and tea for us... we visited for just over an hour and then we were back on the road headed south on I-5.

As we traveled down I-5, it was wooded intermixed with small country towns. We crossed over many rivers and streams that would eventually empty in to the mighty Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. We got away from Uncle Don's a little late so our arrival into Woodland, Washington was just after dark. The Columbia Riverfront RV Park sat right on the Columbia River and is listed as one of the top 100 RV parks in American... and there are a kabillion RV parks... so that says something.

A ferry ride and 259 miles of driving... tomorrow we will be in Twin Falls, Idaho to see my Sister Carol and her new puppy, Indigo.
