Day 8: Billings, MT - Osburn, ID

Day 8: Billings, MT – Osburn, ID

Sunday, October 25th and today we are going to drive as far West on I-90 as we can with no real plans of where to stop. It’s a good road that travels through the Rocky Mountains and several amazing National Forests with very high mountain peaks on both sides of the interstate. This includes Granite Peak which is located in the Gallatin Nat’l Forest and it is the highest peak in Montana at 12,800 feet. We also traveled through Bozeman, Butte and Missoula and through the Garnet Mountain Range where we crossed the Continental Divide. The KeyZRV covered some extreme elevations today.

The entire day we traveled on beautiful mountain roads with snow capped peaks in the distance and landscapes full of fall colors. We crossed the border of Montana where we spent the night in Osburn, Idaho… a very old silver mining town in the panhandle. Parallel to the interstate, was a very old railroad that has been converted to a walking/bike trail through the Coeur d’Alene National Forest and all the little mining towns.

Miles traveled today - 462. We stayed at the Blue Anchor RV Park that was run by a former San Francisco resident who was tired of the California rat race. The temperatures were in the high 30’s, low 40’s with drizzling rain so Brigit and Riley needed to don their raincoats for walks. We did laundry and enjoyed the evening with a dinner of pork medallions with reduced orange cranberry sauce, creamed spinach and wild rice. This was a another great day!!!
